Personality: Kaali tends to be friendly but not terribly social, due to being unable to utilize her vocal cords. While capable of speech via whispering, she greatly prefers listening over participating in conversation. Her typical format of responding is by writing in a small notebook she carries in her back pants' pocket, or in the case of her school uniform, her case along with her books. Kaali has minor reservations when speaking to humans, due to more recent conflicts at Signal Academy. Kaali recently gained a strong interest in technology and mechanics, and happily tries to join in conversations related to these things. Especially concerning turrets, and mechanical defense systems.
Appearance: Kaali is a cat faunus, standing at just under five feet six inches(166cm), and weighing in around 138 pounds(62kg).
Her bright green eyes are framed with silver-grey neck length hair, with black cat ears protruding from the top of her head. A thin tail twitches slightly behind her, covered with short black short hair.

GreySemblance: Safe Passage: Kaali can choose a single person to guard. Activating this ability—or changing its current target—requires direct contact with the person, and several seconds of concentration, meaning it is difficult to use in the heat of battle. Changing her guarded target requires the same action. The primary visual effect is a circular white glyph on the ground under Kaali's feet, which actively points her to her guarded target.
When the guarded target is in danger, Kaali's strength, speed, mental agility, aura and general combat prowess are drastically increased. This increase is given automatically to Kaali once her guarded target feels endangered. It does not work on someone who is asleep or incapacitated, since they can't tell if they are in danger or not. This ability makes Kaali a formidable opponent, but with the requirement that her ally be in danger. In solo combat, or when her ally is being ignored, she gains little benefit. If Kaali's guard target becomes critically injured or killed, Safe Passage ends, and Kaali becomes fatigued from the resulting backlash of her semblance. While fatigued, she cannot reactivate the ability, and will likely struggle to keep up in combat.

Bio: Kaali was born in a small town built on a large holm in the middle of a river. The town made use of this natural barrier by refusing to build a bridge across it and utilizing ferries to transport goods and people to and from the town. Kaali's family has been in charge of this ferry system for two generations, with Kaali and her brother being the third. Kaali began helping with the work at a young age, eager to explore beyond the river when possible.
Born mute, Kaali spent much of her time alone in her early years, having no friends outside of her family members. As she grew older, she began reading a great deal, learning as much as she could about the world and its history. She became very interested in Grimm, and Hunters specifically. All city members that left the town were required to have some basic combat training or have an escort, and Kaali took to her family's trademark weapon, a spear, very well. She quickly outmatched others in her age group, showing a strength and prowess rivaling her father's; he was regarded as the most capable protector the town had.
As the age to enroll in a combat school approached, Kaali began pressing her father to allow her to travel to Vale and enroll at Signal Academy. She got her mother on her side, and her father eventually gave in, knowing his son would remain to continue their little family tradition. Once enrolled, Kaali moved to Vale to live with a cousin and aunt that she'd only met once, when they came to visit them years ago.
At Signal, Kaali made only a single true friend. Yahto, an intern instructor, was versed in sign language, making it easy for Kaali to communicate with him. As they became better friends, Kaali became more comfortable with socializing, and in time started spending time with others and trying to make friends. Yahto's intern came to an end during her first year, but they continued to keep in touch via letters. Kaali had since made a small group of friends, with whom she spent her free time with, whenever she wasn't too busy studying.
During her time at Signal, however, she became a little more reclusive when she had repeated encounters with a pair of humans who constantly harassed her and looked down upon her due to her faunus heritage. Having read about the faunus war and the disparity between humans and Faunus, Kaali was aware of these kinds of events, but was not prepared to experience them herself. She slowly drifted away from her friends, keeping in contact only with Yahto primarily. Despite all these things, she pressed forward, and enrolled into Beacon Academy at Yahto's request, using her high marks and solid combat abilities to get her in.
Equipment and Battle Info
Battle attire: Kaali wears a
somewhat formal outfit nearly all the time, except when required to wear other attire such as a school uniform. A dress shirt under a black dress coat, featuring her symbol on the left breast pocket. Pants accompany these things, and very occasionally a short skirt over the pants. A light, but very durable bracer is worn on her left forearm, designed to provide minor defense while being non-intrusive.
Fighting style: An extremely defensive fighter, Kaali focuses on distraction and disruptive based attacked, aiming to knock targets off balance for easier strikes, or to create distance or protection for allies. When fighting alone, Kaali modifies her style to instead work on slowing enemies down so she can escape, as she lacks confidence in herself when she is alone. She rarely fights alone, preferring at least a single ally.

Weapon Range: 0-15 feet
Weapon type: Spear, Chain, Sword
Weapon Description: Nyx is a spear by default, slung over Kaali's shoulder, with a hardened leather sheath over the pointy side. The spear is custom made by her, featuring her symbol on one side of the sheath, and on the blade itself. Nyx can be separated into a short sword and shortstaff. These two weapons give Kaali stronger defense and offense at very close range for when a spear is inefficient or ineffective. Transforming the weapon out of spear mode will cause the sheath to fall harmlessly to the ground, undamaged. Kaali has also designed the sling to hold Nyx in sword and staff form as well as spear, though she rarely does that.
Weapon Abilities: Nyx can transform into a small number of weapons. By default, it is a spear, Kaali's weapon of choice. When transformed, the upper end of the spear changes into a sword, while the shaft separates into a shortstaff, easily wielded in one or two hands.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Mute: Kaali is unable to speak, making all manner of communication more difficult. She is capable of whispering, sign language, and often writes messages to others. This does have a benefit however, as it allows her to more easily focus on tasks and the like by not having chatter as a distraction.
History Buff: Kaali likes reading. She has read many history books of all kinds, but prides herself in her knowledge of Faunus, Grimm, and Huntsmen.
Socially Awkward: Kaali doesn't dislike conversation or spending time with others, she is simply not adept at it due to communication difficulties, and her past with students at Signal Academy.
